SkyOne Federal Credit Union
A Branch That Breathes Life Into Its Brand
SkyOne Federal Credit Union, $600 million in assets, has over 70 years of history serving Southern California, with an impressive clientele of over 40,000 members.
And like all growing institutions, the time came to expand. They were looking to grow by adding an additional branch to their network.
With a successful micro-branch project already under their belt, SkyOne wanted to keep a good thing going with their design-build partner, DBSI, so they reached out for help.
This branch needed to better serve their current members (aviation professionals) while also growing their membership beyond the aviation industry.
SkyOne found a 1,000 sqft space that was perfect, conveniently located just a few miles from the airport and near several affluent beach cities. There was only one problem: the space was less than large.
“Our main goal with this new branch was making the most of this small, narrow space. We wanted it to look and feel like our other branches: open, COVID-friendly, and have visibility of the whole branch for security purposes. But we knew that would be a challenge,” said Melissa Choi, Director of Retail and Business Development.
The 1,000 sqft branch came complete with all the necessary features. The retail components made the most of the small space. Instead of private offices, DSBI opted to use Service Spots to offer staff flexible workstations to privately advise clients without the need for secluded office spaces that eat up half the floorplan and scream “sales conversation”! DBSI also included top-of-the-line technologies that enable retail experiences, like core integrated cash recyclers.
With the right balance of design and technology, the branch operates excellently—delivering the retail experience that is critical to their membership.
Design Elements
To make a small space function big, you have to think BIG. This open floor branch plan allows staff to move around more easily, creating a more advisory feel. And with progressive retail features like Service Spots, the staff and clients have immediate hip-to-hip conversations from start to finish of the visit.
TECHNOLOGY ELEMENTS
From core-integrated cash recyclers installed in the flexible workstations to the vestibule filled with self-service options, this small but mighty branch is equipped with the technology needed to run smoothly.
Another feature clients are drawn to is their creative Digital Signage that communicates promotions, products, and services, and other important business information to increase sales, client education, and more. In fact, according to staff, digital signage has been a huge hit in this branch.
"This branch is unlike any other, with a blend of technology and an enhanced member experience."
