A Bank Built Around The Kitchen Table
Rabobank has over 125 years of history across 38 countries, and as one of the largest banks in the world, Rabobank was looking to continue to grow their retail bank presence with a new flagship branch to be located nearby their Sacramento-area U.S. headquarters.
Like most financial institutions, the folks at Rabobank were seeing the landscape of banking changing and knew they needed to break the mold and change with it. While that meant moving away from the previous Rabobank design used in other branches, they didn’t want to lose the Rabobank essence and core values that had made them successful and embraced within the community.
Armed with an idea of what they wanted, but faced with the challenge of where to start and how to expand upon the concept, Rabobank began their search for answers.
DBSI came highly recommended by one of Rabobank’s partners for their out-of-the-box ideas and the ability to bring ideas to life.
At a critical visit to the Ideation Center, Rabobank got a feel for the latest in design, technology, and equipment, which allowed DBSI to create a space custom to their likes and desired state. The “Community Market” concept was created to keep the traditions alive while bringing them into the new age. A warm, open, and inviting retail design, the “Community Market” concept incorporated technology in strategic places to better engage with customers instead of isolating them.
Rabobank’s official grand opening was complete with news coverage, city officials, large crowds, and an ecstatic community. The Rabobank team couldn’t be more thrilled – the branch is the embodiment of everything they set out to accomplish and more.
And if you speak in ROI as DBSI does, you should know that Rabobank attracted its largest depositor through one of its events held in the Community Room of this branch!
Design Elements
The highlights of the design include a “Kitchen Table” room where meetings with bank customers can be conducted around a table just like the way it was done 100 years ago. A Community Room equipped with an up-sliding garage door that transforms into a fully-functioning farmers market to showcase local business products. And a classic Chevrolet flatbed truck turned discovery bar replete with Rabobank’s blue and orange colors.

Design Elements
This space truly is breathtaking from when you see the towering building to when you first enter the branch, and it is the details that really make it so special. From red Clarus Glass to local Kasota Stone, every element of this flagship branch and headquarters space was customized for the unique community it serves.

DIGITAL SIGNAGE
The perfect way to balance the use of technology in this Community Market concept was with the use of digital signage that complemented and elevated the design. From an interactive display in the living room table and lobby to the branded pillar and community board to promotional displays around the branch. But perhaps the most unique piece of signage is Expert Nearby, a private office where clients can meet with virtual bankers without the need for an in-branch specialist or return appointment.
"In my 20+ years in banking I have never heard clients express this much excitement when coming into a bank."
